We think RV camping is one of the most relaxing and fun excursions families can take with each other. As the summer season comes upon us, and families are gearing up for their summer vacations, we wanted to provide you with a list of the top weekend getaways for RV camping in our Gulf Shores area. You don’t have to travel far to find great places offering many features. Check out these local destinations and let us know what you think.

Top 5 RV Campgrounds on the Alabama Gulf Coast

1. Gulf State Park
Gulf State Park is just a half a mile from the Gulf of Mexico and offers two miles of Gulf beaches, 496 campground sites and cabins, a modern beach pavilion, fishing, hiking, swimming, and boating in a 900 acre lake. You can also enjoy a round of golf on their 18-hole course and learn interesting facts about Alabama native wildlife and fish at their nature center.

2. Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park RV Camp Resort of the Alabama Gulf Coast
Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Parks have long been a favorite among families with young children with their plentiful activities, amenities, and accommodations that are easy on the wallet. The Elberta, Alabama campground has large spacious sites, clean bathroom and laundry facilities, two playgrounds, swimming pool, volleyball, horse shoes, and a 2 acre fishing pond, you can guarantee there’s something to do for everyone. Year round, there are weekly themes and planned daily activities. You can also enjoy the clubhouse, novelty shop and convenience store right on the premises.

 

3. Heritage Motor Coach Resort & Marina
If you’re looking for a little luxury while RVing it in your Class A motor coach, treat yourself to the amenities at the Heritage Motor Coach Resort & Marina in Orange Beach, Alabama. Located on the Bayou St. John in Orange Beach, this destination has 79 RV site rentals each including a small rental coach house with a full bath, private patio, and kitchen or kitchenette. Some sites have outdoor kitchens, BBQ grills, and a boat slip. These casitas can come in a studio or one-bedroom floor plan. Each RV site rental comes with all connections (including Wi-Fi) and access to all outdoor amenities on-site as well as access to all resort amenities, including a fitness center, hot tub, laundry facility, an infinity edge pool, and an outdoor pavilion with a fire pit. They do however have strict limitations on who can stay at this location. The resort was created for owners of Class A motor coaches only (34’ or longer) that are 10 years or newer.

4. Buena Vista Coastal RV Resort
Also located in Orange Beach nestled between the white sandy beaches and the 6000+ acre Gulf State Park is the Buena Vista Coastal RV Resort that shares many of the same amenities as Heritage, except with much larger coach houses. They accept 10 years or newer 34’+ Class A motor coaches as well as Super C motorhomes. They have a large clubhouse, indoor pool, hot tub, fitness center, dog park, laundry and bath facilities, 5 acre stocked lake, large lots, brick paving, Wi-Fi, and a gated entrance. Recently, they have added a lazy river/zero entry pool with a splash pad, water slide, and sun deck.

5. Dauphin Island Park & Beach
Just across the Mobile Bay is the 155 acre Dauphin Island Park and Beach. They have 99 full hookup sites, free Wi-Fi, picnic areas, laundry facility, as well as a recycling center and fish cleaning pavilion. Most notably, this area boasts home to an Audubon Bird Sanctuary, secluded beaches with boardwalks, bicycle rentals, and public boat and kayak launches. Around the corner from this park is the historic Fort Gaines and the acclaimed Dauphin Island Sea Lab and Estuarium, perfect for those afternoon excursions. Additionally, if you call ahead to the Mobile Bay Ferry, you may be able to schedule a time when the tide and traffic are right to take your RV over to Dauphin Island via the Ft. Morgan ferry.

From kid-friendly activities at Jellystone, to charter fishing in Orange Beach, or bird watching in Dauphin Island, there’s definitely more than what meets the eye in our neck of the woods.
